Online Tutoring
In light of COVID-19 and social distancing recommendations, Papyrus will be offering a free online tutoring program this summer to complement our online book club. All tutoring will take place remotely through videoconferencing software.

Tutoring FAQs
Who are the tutors?
All of our tutors are college students or advanced high school students. All of our tutors have prior experience working with young students, and many of our tutors have prior experience working with ESL students.

Who can participate?
Any student who will be entering 4th-8th grade this fall. Please note that students will need a stable Internet connection in order to participate, as all tutoring will take place online.

Do you offer individual or group tutoring sessions?
All tutoring sessions take place one-on-one. We match students and tutors based on their preferences and skills as indicated in tutoring intake forms. If you're interested in group tutoring, we offer a free online book club separate from our tutoring program, where students are grouped into small reading circles of four students each.

What subjects are available?
We offer tutoring in all academic subjects: English & language arts, mathematics, social studies/history, and science. We also offer individualized help with summer homework packets or assignments.

How long and when are tutoring sessions?
Each session is 30 minutes long. Students can choose to participate in one to three tutoring sessions per week. In order to best accommodate each student's schedule, we match students with tutors based on availability.

Can parents or guardians sit in on tutoring sessions?
We prefer that parents or guardians do not take part in tutoring sessions. However, we understand that you may be worried about the quality and integrity of the tutoring sessions, especially if you have a young student. For that reason, we allow parents and guardians to attend the first tutoring session to gauge whether it is the right fit for their student. If you have extenuating circumstances, we allow exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis.
